Blond Beer
What is a blonde beer?
Blonde beer is a little brother to pilsner, with similar drinkability but more developed flavours. It often has a higher alcohol content than classic pilsner, ranging from 5% to 9.5%.
Golden in colour and cloudy, this type of beer characterises its appearance. Its distinctive flavour notes are spicy and fruity. However, don't be put off if that sounds intense: most blonde beers are also malty, so unlike IPAs, they are more welcoming to exploring beer lovers.
Blonde beer is often drunk in the summer months because of the style's thirst-quenching qualities. But due to its alcohol content and strong flavours, it also lends itself to the winter months.
Where is blonde beer brewed?
You will notice that our range of blond beer mainly comes from one place: Belgium. Of course, this is not the only place where blonde beer is brewed, the Dutch can do something about it too, but the Belgian take on blonde beer is among the most popular with examples such as Affligem and La Chouffe. With its high alcohol content, this beer particularly lends itself to being enjoyed slowly with some tasty food alongside.
Of course, not all our blonde beer is from Belgium, at the moment we also have a French one and new ones are added all the time!
Which blond beer shall I try first?
A classic like Affligem Blond or La Chouffe is highly recommended! For those not looking for a high alcohol content, try Affligem Frisis Blond, which at 4.6% offers all the flavour of a blonde beer.
What goes well with a blonde beer?
Because blonde beer often has a rich and deep flavour, it may seem impossible to pair with food. However, the golden rule is to pair it with something of equal strength - so if you enjoy a lighter blonde beer, it is easy to pair it with fish or chicken.Do heavier guns come to the table? Then a spicy cheese will go perfectly with it!
