Sustainability at Beerwulf

At Beerwulf, our mission is to provide you with the best possible home draught experience while being conscious about the impact on our environment. As an e-commerce company, we are aware that our activities have an impact on the environment and climate. Challenges like single-use products, shipping emissions, and waste from our supply chain are part of our reality.

Becoming more sustainable and reducing our footprint does unfortunately not happen overnight – it's a journey and we want to take you on the ride! That’s why we’re excited to share our progress, successes, and challenges here.

Our Footprint

One of our key sustainability goals is to cut down our greenhouse gas emissions every year. By 2030, we’re aiming for net zero in our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions (that’s all the emissions that under our direct control).

But here’s the thing: most of our footprint—almost 99% in 2024—comes from Scope 3 emissions. These are trickier, because we don’t have direct control over them. They include everything from brewing beers, producing the machines and packaging to transporting orders to your homes.

Together with Climate Partner we calculated our 2024 carbon footprint, which will serve as the baseline for measuring progress in the years ahead. In 2024, we were responsible for 4,625.91 t of CO2 emissions. Our emission hotspots are in the production and end-of-life treatment of our products, our packaging and our transportation. To decrease these emissions, we are continuously working with our suppliers to increase the recyclability of packaging, repair and refurbish machines, minimize waste throughout the supply chain and find solutions for more sustainable deliveries.

Our Products

BLADE beer machine

We want to ensure that our BLADE beer machines remain in use for as long as possible to maximise their lifespan. That’s why we offer both new machines and refurbished ones. If a BLADE beer machine is returned unopened, it goes straight back into stock. If it’s been opened or used, we test it, fix it if needed, and sell it at a discount as a refurbished product.

Our refurbished BLADEs come in different conditions—they might not look brand new, but they pour beer just as perfectly. Most of the returned machines are resold, ensuring that as many machines as possible find a beer-loving home.

If you are having issues with your own machine, please reach out to our customer care team and we'll find a solution for you.

Beer Kegs

Our beer kegs are single-use packaging that are made from different materials and need to be disposed of after use.

  • The SUB kegs: made primarily from PET plastic, with 30% recycled material.
  • BLADE kegs: made primarily from PET plastic, with 30% recycled material.
  • Draught kegs: made primarily from steel and aluminium.

We are continuously working on increasing the amount of recycled materials in the mix and increasing the recyclability of our packaging. We are aiming to make all our kegs recyclable by 2030.

At Beerwulf, we hate wasting beer and the effort that goes into brewing it. However, we cannot always perfectly plan our stock, which sometimes leads to beer expiring in our warehouse. To prevent this, we offer customers promotions close to their best-before dates. This ensures we avoid waste while allowing you to enjoy your favourite beers at discounted prices. A win-win for everyone!

If any beer does expire in our warehouses, it is repurposed for biogas production or water treatment. In the UK, expired beer from our warehouse is sent to Swancote Energy, where it is converted into biogas. The residual sludge is then used as fertilizer. In the Netherlands, expired beer is sent to Kwaliflex, a food recycling company that processes it for water treatment facilities.

Our packaging

All our shipping boxes are made from 70% recycled materials. The cardboard boxes can be easily recycled in your household paper and cardboard bin. We are continuously working to minimise the amount of packaging we use.

Our team

At Beerwulf, inclusion and diversity are highly valued. With a team of 33 employees, we proudly represent 16 nationalities and maintain a 50/50 gender balance. Regardless of background, ethnicity, or gender, there is a place for everyone at Beerwulf. Celebrating diversity is a core part of our company culture, and we strive to share this value externally as well.
