THE SUB is the innovative home tap from KRUPS, designed by the highly acclaimed industrial designer Marc Newson. Select your favourite beers from around the globe, place the SUB Keg in THE SUB and enjoy delicious, freshly tapped draught beer.

The SUB is 45.5cm (excluding drip tray) x 23.5cm x 32.6cm (d x l x h). The SUB weighs 6.8 kg.

The SUB Compact is 45.3cm (excluding drip tray) x 19cm x 37.5cm (d x l x h) and weighs 4.45kg.

The differences in terms of function between our SUB models are displayed below.

All models are made to function with all of our SUB Kegs. The aesthetic differences are that the SUB Compact is slightly smaller in size and is loaded from the top, The SUB is loaded from the front. In addition, the light on the SUB Compact is not an on/off switch as it is on THE SUB - it is turned off by unplugging the device.

The SUB plugs into the power outlet with a 90cm power cable. It’s extremely energy-efficient with a rating of A+.

The SUB has an energy label of "A+". This means this is one of the most efficient appliances within the home draught system category. The SUB uses an average of 10 Watts in a “steady state.” This means the home temperature is 20-22°C, the SUB Keg is pre-chilled to 2°C, and The SUB is not pouring. It is comparable to an unopened refrigerator. 10 Watts is the same as a usage of 0,010 kWh per hour. The SUB Compact uses an average of 11 Watts in a “steady state”. On an annual basis, when THE SUB is switched on all year, the energy consumption in the "steady state" is approximately 87.6 kWh.

The SUB is made of glossy plastic, and its drip tray is made of plastic. The SUB Compact and its drip tray are made of plastic.

All models of The SUB come with a drip tray. The SUB kegs are sold separately.

The SUB user manual is delivered with the appliance. You can also download The SUB Compact user manual here.

By recycling your electronic appliances valuable resources can be reused.

If you are planning to stop using your The SUB for a certain period of time, is good to follow some simple steps to perfectly store it, and avoid any inconvenience once you start using it again.

When there is a keg in The SUB, it should stay plugged in in order to keep the Keg perfectly chilled and ready for use. We recommend unplugging The SUB when it doesn’t have a Keg installed.

This is perfectly normal. The SUB will adjust temperature to keep your beer perfectly chilled, so you may hear its cooling fan working! The SUB makes a noise level of 25DB.

This is perfectly normal. The SUB is fitted with a pump to keep The SUB keg under pressure. During use, the pump will start up automatically, generating a sound that will stop after a few seconds. The SUB makes a noise level of 25DB.

The SUB chills to 2–6°C and can't be set to any other temperature.

Once your beer is chilled to the right temperature, the light on the front of The SUB will turn green. Draughting a beer before the SUB Keg is completely chilled will produce a lot of foam. We recommend waiting until the green light is on. To pre-cool your SUB Keg, set the fridge at the lowest temperature and put the keg on the lowest shelf (this is the coldest area) for 6 to 10 hours, or until the cold indicator on the Keg turns blue.

While The SUB makes some noise when powered up, it could be heavier than usual. There are a few things you can check:

1: Check the bottom vents of the machine. It could be there is dust or dirt packed in the fans at the bottom, causing the machine to make more noise in trying to cool the SUB Keg. You can clean the vents with a vacuum cleaner by hoovering out the vents from the outside.

2: Check if the issue repeats itself with a different SUB Keg. It could be caused by a faulty Keg not fully connecting to the machine, causing the pressurising noise to repeat itself consistently.

If neither of these options sorts the problem out, please get in touch and we'll have a look for you!

The tube that is inserted in the tap is located in the cap of each SUB keg and should not be taken out of the keg once inserted.

When placing a new SUB Keg in your SUB, please make sure of the following:

Make sure that the Keg is connected properly with the SUB. In case it is not pressurising, it can help to turn the Keg a little bit in the appliance to connect.

Make sure that the Keg is chilled before placing it into the SUB.

Please check if you see any visible damage.

The tube should be inserted with a proper ‘click’. If this is not done properly, the tube can release itself from the Keg, causing the beer to flow out.

If you notice that you feel resistance when inserting the tube, please leave the Keg for a while in your fridge to relax.

If the issue still remains, please contact the customer service department via the link below. We are happy to help!

Please make sure that you will provide us with the following information:

Batch number, this can be found on the side of the Keg under the best before end date.

Picture and/or video of the issue.

Do note that you should not try more than 2 Kegs. If you try a second Keg, we would like to advise to try a different brand.

For a possible investigation, we need to ask you to keep the Keg, so if needed, it can be send to our office.

The SUB Keg are sturdy, but they could leak if they freeze or are punctured. If you notice a leak, the Keg is no longer usable. If you have a Keg that was leaking when you received it, please contact us. Please find below the link to contact the customer care team. Please always state your order number (starting with PO) when getting in touch and a picture and/or video of the issue.

You can, in principle, still use this SUB Keg. It is better, once the Keg has been straightened back up, to let it rest for a while before use.

Once in THE SUB, cooling down a SUB Keg takes 10 to 16 hours (depending on starting temperature of the Keg). When your beer is chilled to the right temperature, then the light on the front of THE SUB will turn green. To speed up the process, ensure your Keg is fully chilled before inserting it into the SUB. Set your fridge at the lowest temperature and store the Keg on the lowest shelf (this is the coldest area) for 6 to 10 hours, or until the cold indicator on the Keg turns dark blue.

The temperature of the Keg depends on the temperature in the fridge and the time the Keg has been in the appliance. If the temperature of the room is above 30 °C and the Keg has not been pre-chilled, it can happen that the light does not turn green. The temperature of the beer, in this case, is within 2 – 6 °C and still cooling. As long as the Keg has been in THE SUB for a couple of hours, it is not a problem that the light is still red.

It can be that the SUB Keg was not inserted correctly and has not correctly activated the pressurising mechanism. Please also have a look at the vents at the bottom and give them a quick hoover. It might be that some dust or dirt is clogging up the fan, creating the noise.

If you still experiencing issues, please contact the customer care team via the link below. Make sure you will add your order number and a video of the issue as well.

The SUB Kegs

We will continue to sell 2L kegs for up to two years from the point of stopping selling SUB machines (1st May 2024), so you'll still be able to enjoy a selection of your favourite brews on draught at home.

Our kegs are made from mainly PET plastics, of which 30% are recycled, so they can be disposed alongside most plastic packaging. 99% of all UK local authorities now offer collection facilities for plastic bottles, either through household recycling or at Recycling Centres. Please make sure you dispose of plastic waste appropriately to ensure the product can be recycled. You can find a local recycling facility via RecycleNow.

A SUB Keg holds two litres of beer. This corresponds to about four 50cl pints.

Kegs for The SUB are 11cm in diameter and 26.9cm high, and weigh 2.1kg.

No, SUB Kegs are designed specifically for The SUB.

You can only use your SUB Keg with The SUB. To ensure the right quality of the product, keep the Keg chilled in The SUB once opened. Do not expose the Keg to direct sunlight & store them below 30°C. Do not freeze the Keg.

Excellent beer quality is guaranteed for at least 1 month after the purchase. Once the Keg has been opened, drink within 15 days. You can check the side of the SUB Keg (or Keg sleeve) for the exact best-by date.

We recommend disposing of the SUB Keg in an appropriate plastic waste stream. Actual realisation depends on local authorities.

We guarantee good beer quality of fully sealed SUB Keg for 1 month after purchasing from our website. Once you’ve opened your SUB Keg, the beer is guaranteed to stay fresh for 15 days, if stored in a running SUB. You can find the best-by date on the side of your Keg - the best before date lasts until the end of the month specified. We guarantee the quality of the beer through the end of the month noted. In general, we recommend storing your Keg in a cool and dry location, for instance the fridge. That will ensure the best beer taste and experience.

Before use, keep SUB Kegs in a cool, dark place. If there's room in your fridge, keep a spare Keg chilled and ready to use. Set the fridge at the lowest temperature and put the Keg on the lowest shelf – this is the fridge's coldest area.Do not place the Keg in direct sunlight, store the Keg above 20 degrees, or freeze the Keg.

No. The kegs should not go below zero degrees as this may damage the packaging and cause beer leakage. You will no longer be able to use the Keg once frozen.

Once a SUB Keg has been opened, you need to keep it in The SUB and keep The SUB plugged in. This will keep the beer at the right pressure and freshness. You can take the Keg out before it is empty, but once removed it should not be consumed.

No, the SUB Keg is specifically designed to be used with The SUB. The beer inside the Keg needs to be kept under controlled pressure, otherwise, the beer will not be the quality you would expect. Piercing the Keg is not recommended as the sudden change in pressure could cause it to rupture.

Yes, over reasonable distances and as long as the transport does not incur high variations in altitude and therefore too much pressure. Nevertheless, once at your destination, it is better to let it rest for a while before use. Please note, the SUB Keg is not transportable by plane, because of the significant variation in altitude and therefore pressure.
