Moretti beer

An authentic Italian history for 160 years

In 1859 an authentic beer was born in Italy: Birra Moretti. In that same year Luigi Moretti, only 37 years old, opened the Brewery and Ice Factory in Udine. He came from a family of merchants, which clearly awarded him with a good foundation and understanding of commerce.

Since then, the production process hasn’t changed. Birra Moretti Original Recipe has remained the same since 1859. It is produced in the traditional way, that is a low-fermentation beer. The blend of fine hops produces a pleasant, finely bitter and balanced flavour, with floral notes. The relatively low alcohol content makes it perfect for mealtimes, pizza and pasta especially!

The brand remained very local and only broke out into foreign markets in the 1990s. Despite this more provincial approach the technology and equipment were the most advanced in Italy! In fact, the factory and methods were considered pretty revolutionary compared to what Italy knew at that time, which were mainly artisanal.

The production of Birra Moretti still to this day adheres to the traditional rules. It calls for premium raw materials and a special blend of hops and fine malts to give it that unique aroma people have grown to know and love. The quality of the range has been appreciated and recognised in Italy and further afield by industry experts from all over the world, receiving 148 international awards in the last 14 years. Moretti was made very famous by the gold and silver medals it was awarded at the World Beer Cup in 2006. Since then Moretti has won five additional medals at the Australian International Beer Award.
