BeerTender setup guide

BeerTender is a premium home beer dispenser designed to deliver perfectly poured draught beer using 5L kegs. Here’s how BeerTender works, from setup to serving the perfect pint.

Designed by SEB, BeerTender is one of the most popular home beer dispensers available. Using convenient 5L kegs, it allows you to pour approximately nine fresh pints of draught beer from the comfort of your own home.

Inspired by professional bar tap systems, BeerTender combines stylish design with reliable performance. Its intuitive pouring handle and electronic cooling system make it easy to enjoy the ritual of a perfectly poured draught beer in your kitchen, living room, or home bar. Available in a range of colours and finishes, there's a BeerTender model to suit every space.

BeerTender setup guide: loading a 5L keg

1. Chill the keg

Place your 5L keg in the refrigerator for at least 8–10 hours before use.

Once chilled, click a BeerTender service tube into the keg neck. Always use a new service tube for every new keg. Reusing a tube may introduce impurities that can affect beer quality and cause excessive foaming.

2. Load the keg

Open the machine by pressing the section beneath the digital display and releasing it. The lid will automatically lift.

Place the keg inside the machine, ensuring the service tube remains accessible on top.

3. Install the serving tube

Move the handle to the left and remove the tap spout cover.

Connect the service tube to the dispensing tube, ensuring it clicks securely into place. Then replace the tap spout cover.

4. Close the machine

Close the lid and allow the machine to cool the beer.

When the thermometer icon on the display turns green, your beer has reached the ideal serving temperature and is ready to pour.

Your BeerTender is now ready to use.

How to pour draught beer with BeerTender

1. Wait until the beer is fully chilled

For the best results, wait until the thermometer icon turns green before pouring.

To speed up the process, always chill your keg in the fridge before loading it into the machine. You'll enjoy fresh draught beer sooner and achieve a better pour.

2. Rinse your glass

Always use a clean glass rinsed with cold water.

Even small traces of detergent, grease, or dust can affect foam quality and alter the taste of your beer.

3. Tilt the glass

Hold your glass at a 45-degree angle beneath the tap spout.

This creates the ideal balance between beer and foam while helping to produce a smooth, controlled pour.

4. Pour your beer

Keeping the glass tilted, pull the handle down quickly and fully.

As the glass fills, gradually straighten it. Once you've reached the desired fill level, return the handle to its upright position.

Tip: Too much foam usually means the beer isn't cold enough yet or the glass contains impurities.

5. Perfect the head

If the foam rises above the rim of the glass, remove the excess using a foam cutter.

A good foam head should be roughly the width of the foam cutter. It helps protect the beer, preserve carbonation, and retain aroma for a better drinking experience.

Tip: Many branded beer glasses include a fill line that indicates where the foam head should begin.
