HOW TO CHANGE A BLADE KEG

Whether it’s after a few weeks, a couple of days or the half-time whistle, the time will come when you’ll need to change a BLADE keg. Follow this simple step by step guide, or watch the video below, to get the beers flowing again in no time.

1. UNLOCK & REMOVE THE KEG

First things first, make sure the BLADE keg is empty. The indicator on your BLADE beer machine will let you know when it’s ready for a top up. Flick the lock switch up and make sure the red indicator light stops blinking and is turned off.

Take off the dome and flip open the tap lid. Then, pull out the spout and beer tube and lift out the keg.

2. PREPARE YOUR NEW BLADE KEG

For the best draught beer experience, ensure your BLADE keg is pre-cooled for at least 16 to 24 hours before use. When chilled, unwind the beer tube completely from the neck of the cap.

Press the orange button on the keg until you hear a ‘click’.

3. INSERT THE KEG

Open the tap cover and carefully guide the keg into the cooling bowl, keeping it vertical. Make sure the beer tube is at the front and facing the machine. Gently twist the keg to ensure it is securely seated.

Align the beer tube with the orange groove and firmly press the lower black valve into the metallic valve holder to secure it. Flip the tap cover upwards until it locks in place. If it doesn’t stay up, check the tube and valve positioning. Remove the red cap once secured.

4. PUT THE DOME BACK ON

Place the dome back on your BLADE machine. This helps maintain the perfect temperature and allows the machine’s light feature to activate. Switch on the lightbulb icon to illuminate your machine.

5. LOCK THE KEG

Flick the keg lock switch downward to lock your new keg in place. The solid green indicator light will confirm the keg is properly locked.

6. CHECK THE TEMPERATURE

Use the temperature gauge to confirm your beer is at the optimal serving temperature before you pour.

Your BLADE’s ‘beer-o-meter’ will indicate the amount of beer you have left.

How much beer does a BLADE keg hold?

Each BLADE keg holds 8 litres of beer, which comes to approximately 14 pints. This makes them ideal for gatherings, dinner parties, or simply enjoying fresh, pub-quality draught beer at your own pace.

How long does it take to cool a BLADE keg?

Always pre-cool your BLADE kegs in the fridge for 16–24 hours before use. This ensures your beer is ready to pour sooner, saving you time when hosting or enjoying a chilled pint.

How should I store BLADE kegs?

Store BLADE kegs in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid exposing kegs to extreme temperatures, as this can affect the quality of the beer. Never place kegs in the freezer, as the beer will expand and risk damaging the keg.

Can I remove a BLADE keg before it’s empty?

Once a keg is open, you have to keep it in your BLADE appliance. You can store the open keg for up to 30 days. This will keep the keg at the right pressure and freshness. You can take the keg out before it’s empty, although once removed it should not be consumed.

What is the shelf life of a BLADE keg?

Once tapped, a BLADE keg keeps beer fresh and full of flavour for up to 30 days. For unopened kegs, always check the best-before date (BBD) to ensure optimal freshness.

Are BLADE kegs recyclable?

BLADE kegs are primarily made from PET plastics, with 30% derived from recycled materials, making them suitable for disposal alongside other plastic packaging. In the UK, 99% of local authorities provide plastic recycling options, either through household collections or dedicated Recycling Centres. To ensure proper recycling, always dispose of plastic waste responsibly. You can locate your nearest recycling facility through this website
