We all know what the word evokes and although the iconic unit is loved and unanimously used by Brits and Irish alike, most do not know how much it actually is - if it was a question on a pub quiz, many would be looking at their drinks in confusion. You may well be loyally ordering pints, but outside of beer drinking and milk cartons, it is almost meaningless.

Converting imperial pints to litres is a simple calculation that you can apply to all volumes of keg. It might seem confusing but once you have the conversion formulae it’s very straightforward. There is also something else to also bear in mind - the British imperial pint is actually 20% larger than the American pint, so we will be sticking with the British pint for all calculations going forward.

If you’re a whizz at maths, this may seem obvious, but for many of us, this is a lot of calculations for what is a nice treat at the end of the day. But, to make sure you are getting a lot of bang for your hard-earned bucks, it is important to calculate how much is actually in kegs.
1 litre = 1.8 pints
so
2 litre keg = 3.5 pints or 7 half pints
and
5 litre keg = 8.80 pints

To calculate how many pints in a 22 keg of beer:

- 1 gallon = 8 pints.
22 gallons × 8 = 176 pints.
So, a 22-gallon keg contains 176 pints of beer.
